Winter Festival @ Brisbane

I went to King George Square today. I found there is ready for Winter Festival which starts from Tomorrow and ends on 1st July. The Lipton Tent and the huge ice rink  are setup on the King George Square. I think we can go to Ice skating tomorrow! Moreover, there are some shops in there are already opened for Business. They are  selling some hot food for this festival. That is really ready now! I will go to there and check it out again!

P.S. Winter Festival is a premier event in Australia. It goes to each major city in Australia including Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.  The major selling point of this festival is a huge ice rink, you can buy a ticket to ice skating and there will be some ice performance too. Even in Australia, we have not snow, but we can enjoy a icy winter!

Artist Market@King George Square

Yesterday, I was walking around City. I found there is a street market in King George Square. This is market for Brisbane artists. There are some handcraft from artists, that is different from other street markets. That will be fun to shop over there!

Fireworks@Sunnybank

Tonight, after my dinner at Sunnybank Plaza, while I was walking in car park I saw there was a fireworks. Is there somethings special happen tonight?

Westfield Carindale New Extension

Recently, Westfield built a new extension for Carindale Shopping Center. Today, I went  there for tasting and to get a new shopping experience.

I quite like the new section. Natural light was used and a lot of sitting areas has been added. Moreover, the colour themes are quite warm and the walk paths are quite wide, which makes it  comfortable to shop in.

Natural Light in Westfield Carindale

For shops, there are a lot of new ones, such as Coles. Moreover, some existing shops have moved to the new section such as JB Hi-Fi and Target. Well, they are getting bigger!  There is more space to shop!

New Entrance - Westfield Carindale

The improvements are not just inside.  They have got a new entrance. That is quite grand too!

The glasshouse - Westfield Carindale

For food, near the entrance, they have built a new food court which is called the “Glass House”. I think it received this name because the entrance is a work of glass. Anyway, the name is not the key point. The choice of food is more important. In there, a few new restaurants have been opened , such as Grill’d and Wagamama. There is even a new Yum Cha restaurant  For myself, I like the Mexican restaurant, Guzman Y Gomez. It is quite good!

Information Guide - Westfield Carindale

In addition, there are some technology improvements. They have installed some Touch PC as the information providers.

parking guidance system- Westfield-Carindale

A new parking guidance system has been installed. It will display the number of free spaces in each lane.

Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre has become much better and more fresh I think you should visit there again.

On Monday(23/1/2012), that is the Chinese New Year’s day. But Sunnybank Plaza has started their Chinese New Year Program. At 3pm today, I went to Footcourt in Sunnybank plaza. There was Loin & Dragon Dance Performance. A lot of people were watching in there.  That is not just our Chinese, there are a number of Australian too! Everyone is very enjoy in there. We can experience the joy of Chinese New Year!

Moreover,  Loin Dance is very cool! Those two loins both look like very young , they are  full of energy.  They kept to run and jump around the foodcourt!  After the Loin Dance, that is the showtime of Dragon! That is a shiny blue dragon! That looks beauty. In Hong Kong, we only have those golden dragon. That is my first times to see a blue dragon dance. That is cool!

Well, there is a chance. On 3pm Tomorrow(22/1/2012) , there will be another session of performance.

Fireworks

Today is New Year Eve.  In Brisbane,  there are a lot of events in Southbank. The key event is fireworks on Brisbane River.  That is two sessions of firework. The first is at 8.30pm and the other one is at the mid-night.  You can watch it in Southbank and Eagle Street. I prefer to watch it in Southbank, because the people will have count-down in there too! But I may not watch it this year. Because that is very cloudy outside, it looks like raining soon!

Brisbane Christmas Lights

Calmvale Christmas Lights

When I was in Hong Kong, I love to watch Christmas Lights. There was some lights which is about Christmas Stories on the high rise, we can watch on the street.  In Brisbane, there is no high rise buildings have lights for Christmas. Instead of, the people will set Christmas in their house. There is a competition for this too! Last night, we went to Liam Court, Calamvale. The houses in that street are joined this competition.  Although they are without the help from professional people and big sponsors, the lights are so beautiful!  I appreciated the effort of the house owners put into that!

Chinese Feature - Christmas Lights

They are creative too! I saw one of houses put some Chinese features in their Christmas Lights!

Officially,  the Christmas Lights are ended last night. If you live in Calamvale, that is still worth to drive pass there. Maybe, the owners still leaves their Christmas lights on.

If not, then please click here to watch the photo I took last night
