One of important features in EKKA is animals. You can meet farm animals in a short distance.

Besides of sheep, EKKA has a lot of cows.

COWS@EKKA

Tasty EKKA

EKKA is not just about animals.  There are a lot of tasty food!

Firstly, I must talk about strawberry ice cream which is the most famous food in EKKA. Some of my friends said you can only have it in EKKA.

That is a kind of very special ice cream. At the most top level, there is a whole strawberry. Next strawberry ice cream is under placed under that.  Then there are some sliced  strawberry inside the cup. Finally, at lowest level,  vanilla ice cream is placed at the base. It tasted different in each level. That is very very tasty.

Please remember this hut, You can buy this kind of icecream for $5 each and there is always people lining up.

EKKA 2014

EKKA 2014EKKA is a major event in Brisbane. Actually, this is an annual agricultural show in Brisbane and has more 100 years history. The first EKKA held in 1876.

Of course, I did not miss that. I went there yesterday. I had a fun day in there. I saw there were a lot of people, I guess they were enjoying it too!

Firstly, I enjoyed the horse show a  lot. They performed some “house dance”.House Show @EKKA

We went to the stables to have a closer look  to horses.

Not Only horses, there are some other animals.

P1120214

You can feed some sheep too!

Secondly, the most attractive feature is the showbags which contains commercial merchandise. These merchandise will have much higher value than the price tag of a showbag. I bought a food magazine showbag. That was only $10.

Showbag

It has a magazine, salad sauce, coffee, tea bags, curry and pasta. That was very value for money.

There was not just about shopping. At 5pm, there will be a night show, such as horse racing, singer performance and super cars show. At 7.35pm there will be a firework performance.P1120262

Lastly,  there are some rides too! But they are not free. Each ride costs about $8-12.

If you don’t like that many excitements, you can have some games in the stalls. Maybe, you can win some dolls from there.

However, normally, they costs $5.

Wow, I had a lot of fun in there. Even if you need to pay $29 for adult ,$22 for Concession and $18 for child,(If you are RACQ memeber, you can get 15%), that is still value for money!

Night Noodle Markets@Good Food Month

From tonight to 27 July, every night, a night market holds in Culture Forecourt, it calls “Night Noodle Markets“.Actually, that is a major event during Good Food Month, Brisbane.

Last night, we went to that events. That was full of people and most of stalls had a few people lining in front of them. Moreover, there were a lot of various types Asian food,  such as Japanese Ramen, Dim Sum and Malaysia Roti. It looks like a Asian hawker market.

I and my wife tried a stall calls Okonomi, we ordered a Japanese Style Pizza. There were a long queue in there. We spent half hour for waiting.

No worries, the chief  used “stir fry” style for making Japanese Style Pizza is a kind of performance.

Brisbane ANZAC Parade

Today is ANZAC Day which is a national day of remembrance in all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

Thus, this morning, I went to City for ANZAC Parade. I wish to pay tribute to the men and women to service the country. The parade is very large, that was about 125 groups to join this parade.

ANZAC Ex-Service People

Firstly, the first group in the parade are some world war I and II ex-service men and women.  Also, I found there was British ex-service men and women in the parade.

Yesterday,  I went to the Sunnybank Chinese New Year Festival at the car park of Sunnybank Plaza.  That was not a large event, but that was still great! There were some Traditional Chinese Music Performance and Loins Dancing. That was not bad at all. Moreover, some stalls sold a lot of tasty Hong Kong food. I love them all!

Hong Kong Style Dim SumI bought a pack of Dim Sum in there for $1, such as a great deal!  Besides of food, there were a lucky draw and some freebies, such as Chinese chili sauce and dried vegetable.

That was the best Chinese New Year Event I went( excluding the events in my church).

Tomorrow is the Chinese new year.  First of All, Happy Chinese New Year. Tomorrow, there will be a number of celebrations around China Town and Sunnybank. I highly recommend the Lions Dancing in Sunnybank  Plaze at 10.30am. If you won’t be around, even Westfield Carindale will have lions dancing tomorrow!

Finally, I completed the editing of those video I got in New Year Firework at southbabnk. My camera is not very good, but the video was taken by this camera, they are still alright.

Major Power Outage in Brisbane -Hakataya RamenAround 4pm this afternoon, the sky went dark. Then a number of lightning strikes were coming, they were very closed to my house. Then the lights in my house were flashing. At the end, the power and internet were gone.  We were not alone, some friends who live in nearby suburbs told me the similar stories. They lost the power supply too.  Then I checked the Energex twitter page, there were 70,000 households  were without power!

Until 7pm, we were still without power. Last year, a storm came and a lot of power lines  fall.  A lot of houses lost the power supply. In my case, I was without power around 2 days. I had to thrown away all of the food in my fridge. I believe this times will be in a similar situation. I prepared the worst case. I moved all food in my fridge to my friends’ house which are still having power.  Moreover, because the oven and cooktop in my house are electrical, I cannot cook our dinner. That was 7pm, I gave up to wait the power come back. We went to Hakataya Ramen in Sunnybank for dinner.

Again, we were not alone. That was 8 pm in a week day. Kmart, Supermarket and restaurants have more people than usual. I believe a lot of people cannot cook their dinner and stand for the heart in their house.

After 9.30pm, we finished our dinner and window shopping in Kmart. We arrived home. Luckily, the power came back! However, according Energex, there are still 34801 homes are without power. If you are one of them, you can go to their website for further information.

That was a crazy thunderstorm, which brought us a lot troubles!
